
Jonquele has been learning Irish (Gaeilge) and Scottish Gaelic (Gaidhlig) songs and language for over 15 years. She has studied Irish singing with Jim Flanagan, Mary McLaughlin, Ann Mulqueen and Meataí Jo Shéamuis, and Gaelic signing with Catherine-Anne MacPhee, Christine Primrose, Mary Ann Kennedy, and Mary Jane Lamond among others. She has competed in Gaelic song competitions winning the overall women’s singing honors in 1999 at the American National Mòds, sponsored by An Comunn Gaidhealach America, the Scottish Gaelic learning organization. In 2001, she won first place in the Women’s Slow Air competition at the American National Mòd. In 2004, she won Best Musical Performance as well as placing 3rd overall at Mòd na Lochan Mòra—the Great Lakes Mòd.
Jonquele is a founding member of Cor Gaeilge Texais / Gaelic Choir of Texas (http://www.geocities.com/corgaeilgetex/ ) who perform throughout the Texas-Oklahoma region. She has given workshops on song and language since it’s organization in 1997.
