References

Please enter three people who will verify student’s ability to participate at the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat in accordance with our age exception policies.  These references will be contacted by email and asked to complete a short questionnaire in support of student’s application.  To avoid delays in their responses, we suggest that any reference listed below be advised of this process.  Approval will not be given until all requirements are met.

Student Requirements

• Must display a high level of interest, involvement and dedication to Irish traditional music.
• Must possess a level of ability that is comparable to the adult students expected to be enrolled in the classes the student wants to attend.
• Must be comfortable in a class setting with adults, all or most of whom will likely be strangers.
• Must be attentive in classes, well-behaved and considerate of others in and out of class, and respect authority.
• Must have an educational need that is not satisfied by the other Irish music education programs that are currently accessible by the students in their communities.
• Must have an appropriate level of parental involvement. With the sole exception of daytime classes, any student age 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or an adult relative at all times.  Students will be prohibited from overnight stay on campus unless they are roomed with a parent or adult relative.  A curfew of 12 midnight for youth will be strictly enforced unless accompanied by parent or adult relative.
• Must obtain at least three recommendations from non-relatives who will affirm that the student is suitable for the retreat.
• Must submit an MP3 recording of the student’s playing of an Irish melody on their instrument unaccompanied.  For singers, the students should sing a song unaccompanied.  For rhythm instrument players, students should accompany a singer or melody player, and if unavailable, demonstrate their abilities alone.  For dancers, a video of them dancing to Irish music.
• Must abide by all camp policies for attendees.

Parental Consent

I fully understand the requirements above, and if my child’s enrollment is approved by the Retreat Director, I give my permission for my child to attend the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat and take full responsibility for my child’s safety and care when my child is not attending classes. I hereby release, discharge claims, and release from liability the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat, its governing organization the Traditional Irish Music Education Society (TIMES), its volunteers, instructors and other participants, any sponsors, and, if applicable, owners and lessors of premises on which the Retreat take place, (each considered one of the “Releasees” herein) from all liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages, on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the “Releasees” or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations and future agree that if, despite this release, waiver of liability, and assumption of risk I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the “Releasees,” I will indemnify, save, and hold harmless each of the “Releasees” from any loss, liability, damage, or cost, which any may incur as the result of such claim.

I agree that I and my child will abide by all of the requirements and policies established for the attendance of a minor, and that violations could result in my child’s withdrawal from the retreat.

Furthermore, I also agree and approve that any photographs, videotaping or audio recordings of my child taken by the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat may be used solely for retreat marketing and historical archiving purposes.
