Originally from Co. Monaghan but now resident in Galway city, multi instrumentalist Seán McElwain, has become most recognisable for his accompaniment skills on both guitar and bouzouki. Self-taught, but influenced by the likes of Arty Mc Glynn, John Blake, Alec Finn among others, he has developed into one of the leading accompanists in Ireland today. His intuitive approach guided by a subtle musical philosophy has gained plaudits from many quarters. A member of the award winning group Téada, Seán is undertaking a postgraduate degree examining the traditional music of the Sliabh Beagh area of North Monaghan/East Fermanagh. He is also the director of the ‘Scoil Cheoil na Botha’ music weekend held annually in Scotstown, Co. Monaghan.
