Multi-instrumentalist Rick Cunningham has played traditional Irish music for over 40 years, playing in several bands in the southern US during that time. He primarily plays mandolin and button accordion, and also plays bouzouki, guitar, and whistle. Rick placed 1st in solo mandolin in the Midwest Fleadh Cheoiland, competed in the All Ireland in 2006, and he has taught at several festivals and folk schools. He was an instructor at the O’Flaherty retreat in 2006, 2009, and 2014. His self-recorded 2016 CD, “Till The Warfare Is Over”, adapted instruments traditionally used in Celtic music to the tradition of American shaped note music and won critical acclaim from the world of Sacred Harp singing. In the time since, Rick has recorded several other projects, lately with his current group Boxing Robin, whose 2026 release “Land of the Noon Day Moon” was featured in the August 2026 issue of Irish Music Magazine.
