Multi-instrumentalist Rick Cunningham has played traditional Irish music for over 30 years, playing in several bands in the southern US during that time. Concentrating primarily on mandolin and button accordion, he’s also been known to play tenor banjo, bouzouki, guitar, and whistle. Rick won Solo Mandolin in the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil in 2006, and has competed in the All Ireland. In addition to giving private instruction, he has taught workshops at the North Texas Irish Festival, Mississippi Celticfest, and Alabama Folk School, and has been an instructor at the O’Flaherty retreat in 2006, 2009, and 2014. Rick is a perennial member of the TIMES Band & Session Players and Lone Star Ceili Band. His 2016 CD release, “Till The Warfare Is Over” adapted instruments traditionally used in Celtic music to the tradition of American shaped note music, and won critical acclaim from the world of Sacred Harp Singing.
