Michael Gatch, Ph.D. is professor of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, doing research on pain and substance misuse. He has taught for 40 years: psychology, neuroscience, and drugs, including the psychophysiology of hearing. He is classically trained in voice and music theory. He studied harmony under Easley Blackwood, a student of Hindemith and developer of the microtonal scales. The work of Karen Ashbrook on the use of modes to influence mood during Therapeutic Music has been a significant influence.
He has been playing Irish music with his wife in DFW sessions for around 10 years: hammered dulcimer, guitar and whistles.
