Larry Mallette has played whistles and flutes for 30 years. In the 1990s his group Smiles of Erin were regulars at the Texas Renaissance Festival and private engagements around Houston. With The Jig Is Up! Larry performed from 2010-19 at all the major Irish and Celtic Festivals around Texas, presented Irish Christmas concerts at The University of St. Thomas, and toured from Texas and Oklahoma to North Carolina. Larry has performed with his wife, harpist Therese Honey, at the North Texas Irish Festival and the Chicago, Mississippi and Sherwood Forest Celtic Festivals. They have also made performing tours of Norway and of Scotland with the multi-harp ensemble, Harpa.
Larry composes tunes in the Irish idiom, several of which he recorded with The Jig Is Up! and on this two solo CDs. A few have become session standards in Houston. Larry has collected and done minor restorations on antique flutes, three of which he played on his most recent CD, A Stroll in the Park.
