Kenny Tweedy was born in Boston of Scotch-Irish ancestry. Kenny rediscovered his Scottish roots while living in Scotland in the 90s. Upon repatriating to the states, he found himself dissatisfied with contemporary popular music. Kenny found his calling when he started playing Irish traditional dance music in the new millennium. For the past 18 years, Kenny has been anchoring sessions around Austin, performing on St. Patricks’ day, and playing for dancers. Kenny is best known for his vast repertoire of thousands of tunes.
These days, you will find Kenny mainly playing the button accordion. In addition to the accordion, Kenny also plays the fiddle, tenor banjo, concertina, mandolin, Uilleann pipes, whistle, guitar, bouzouki, and piano. In addition to Irish music, Kenny also plays Cajun and Quebecois music on one row button accordion and fiddle, and Old Timey and Swedish music on the fiddle.
