Joseph Carmichael

Guitarist Joseph Carmichael has spent the past several years collecting an impressive resume in the world of traditional music.

An in-demand accompanist in a wide array of Celtic and folk styles, he has performed with such musicians as Brendan Power, Cormac De Barra, Buddy Connolly, Oisín MacDiarmada, James Kelly, Liz Carroll, John Williams, and Brian Finnegan.

His primary project for several years, folk trio Flashpoint, has opened for bands such as FullSet and the legendary Solas before disbanding in late 2016.

He has been a regular member with singer/songwriter, Ashley Davis, and toured with internationally acclaimed musicians, Hanz Araki and Colleen Raney, as well as a special performance in Cavan with Gregory and Alex Grene of the Prodigals, as part of The Gathering in 2013. More recently, Joseph has been performing and recorded two albums with Austin-based quartet, The Here & Now. In 2021, he recorded a guest spot on Brian Finnegan’s “Hunger of the Skin” album, and is currently finishing up his debut solo album to be released in late 2023.

Testimonials

Former Student

Well worth the travel time and money spent - I learned more about why Irish music sounds the way it does in three days than I ever knew before. Now I have a 'gold standard' to use as I develop my own performing skills with that style of music.
