John Ivy has been playing fiddle for over 40 years, with a focus on traditional Irish tunes the last 10 years. After playing viola in his youth, he was introduced to traditional music when friends convinced him to attend a contra dance. Not long after, he bought his first fiddle and has played New England and old-time fiddle tunes for contra dances since the early ’80s on Long Island, Oahu, and in Texas. John has lived in Texas since the late ’90s and discovered the joy of Irish sessions in Bryan. In addition to fiddle, John plays mandolin and bodhran.
