Dave Cory has been playing Irish music for more than 15 years. He started originally on classical guitar, moved over to folk and rock ‘n’ roll, but somehow got an Irish tune stuck in his head in the process, and has been playing mostly Irish trad ever since. His early influences once he took up the tenor banjo include Gerry O’Connor, Kieran Hanrahan, Seamus Egan, among many others. Over the years he has made a point to try to incorporate the ornaments, nuance, repertoire and overall feel of non-banjo music and musicians (piping, button accordion for example) into the way he plays the banjo and guitar. He has performed and recorded with a number of groups and individuals, including “The Magic Square”, “Bridgetown”, “An Tua”, “Providence”,”Lissa Schneckenburger”, “Glen Road”, and others. He currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and is designing his own tenor banjo that should be available by the end of the year and is working on his first solo recording.
