Cliff Moses

February 24, 2019 By Ken Fleming

Cliff Moses has been playing Irish traditional music for over 40 years in the San Antonio area.  He was a founding member of St. James’s Gate, the oldest Irish band in Texas and the first American band to win the All-Ireland in the category for Instrumental Groups.  He played hammered dulcimer with the Gate for 25 years and is a three-time medal winner in solo competition in the All-Ireland. He has performed with the Chieftains and has twice been interviewed on Irish radio, RTE.  Cliff has produced two CDs of traditional Irish music on the dulcimer recording with All-Ireland fiddle champions Seamus Connolly, Antoin MacGabhan, and Josephine Keegan.  He has taught during Irish Week at the Augusta Heritage Festival, the Swannanoa Gathering, and the Catskills as well as O’Flaherty’s.  He took up the fiddle at age 70, and has been studying with Niamh Fahy for the last six years.  He is now the fiddle player for St. James’s Gate.
