Cedar Dobson

Cedar Dobson is a versatile tin whistle player, multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and producer hailing from California near Yosemite National Park. She plays high and low whistles, Irish flute, silver flute, Bodhrán, bouzouki, mandolin, and other instruments. Cedar discovered her deep passion for Traditional Irish music after discovering the tin whistle at an American Civil War Reenactment in California. Her dream was then to study and experience traditional Irish music in Ireland, so she moved there in 2021 to study and has been based there for five years. Cedar received her Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Music Production in 2023 while studying in Windmill Lane Recording Studios.

Cedar has released four self-produced albums, which have been broadcast on radio stations in Ireland such as ‘Raidió na Gaeltachta’ and stations across the United States, the UK, Europe, and New Zealand. Her album ‘Decade’ has been featured in two editions of the Irish Music Magazine. Cedar co-released a single last year with the band ‘Faró’ entitled ‘Seven Houses’, engineered by the legendary whistle player, Alan Doherty.

She composes music for her band ‘The Cedar Dobson Band’ as well as custom tunes for clients. Cedar composed original music for the TG4 Autumn Showreel video entitled ‘Seoladh Sceideal an Fhómhair 2023’. Along with composing, Cedar is also a session musician who has been featured in short films, songs, albums, and sample libraries.

Cedar is an avid performer, having performed all over Ireland, including at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, and in the United States, Scotland, and Brazil. She also teaches in-person and online lessons on a regular basis.

Cedar continues to post videos weekly on social media as a part of her ‘Trad Tune a Week Series’, which include entertaining and viral videos such as riding a unicycle while playing the tin whistle simultaneously. Cedar is currently working on fusion albums and other exciting projects to be released in 2026.
