Brink Trammell’s connection with Irish music has taken the “traditional” course: he doesn’t have the formal training or performance resume to compare to most of the retreat’s performers, but his love of Irish traditional music and enthusiastic participation in sessions around the country have allowed him to develop the skills and repertoire to complement the metroplex’s top ITM players since the inaugural performance of the Traditional Irish Music Education Society’s “TIMES Band & Session Players,” two decades ago. Back then he was playing a hammered dulcimer, but has since shifted to the exact opposite instrument, the Irish flute, which is far more portable and easier to tune.
