Brian McGillicuddy hails from Cork, Ireland, with family roots in the famous musical district of Sliabh Luachra in East Kerry.

Starting music at a young age, Brian began taking tin whistle lessons with teaching maestro Martin Power at Ballincollig Comhaltas Branch and quickly moved on to both mandolin and banjo.

Brian has performed in many Fleadh Cheoil competitions over the years, both individually and with Groups and Ceili Bands, having much success at both provincial and All- Ireland levels.

Brian began teaching music at a young age and developed into a much-sought-after banjo and mandolin tutor. Having obtained the T.T.C.T. teaching diploma through Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, he has taught and continues to teach many students, a number of whom have won in competitions at All-Ireland level on the mandolin.

As a member of The Fuchsia Band, Brian has played and taught at many Irish Festivals in America over the years and more recently has performed with Corner Bar Trio in Europe.

Testimonials

Former Student

Every year I am impressed with the talent and dedication at the retreat. The instructors are really interested in mentoring the students and approaching the music with generosity of spirit and an appreciation for the full context. I learned a great deal!
