Adrian McAuliffe

Adrian McAuliffe is a distinguished figure in the world of Irish traditional music, hailing from Freemount, a village located in the Barony of Duhallow, Northwest Cork. The area is known for its rich musical heritage, which influenced Adrian’s early musical development. He began his journey with Irish traditional music at the age of 8, under the guidance of Con Herbert, a renowned music teacher from Killeedy, West Limerick. Initially, Adrian played the bodhrán and mandolin before transitioning to the tenor banjo, which he quickly mastered.

Adrian’s passion for music led him to become an active competitor at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in the 1980s, both as a soloist and as a member of Ceoltóirí Chrónáin, a local music group formed within the Craobh Chrónáin branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. His musical accomplishments continued to grow, and he became a prominent member of the Allow Céili Band, which achieved notable success, winning the Senior All Ireland Céili Band competition in 2007.

In addition to performing, Adrian is an experienced music tutor. He has taught at prestigious events like the Willie Clancy Summer School, the South Sligo Summer School and Scoil Eigse, sharing his knowledge and passion for Irish music with the next generation of musicians.

A regular performer, Adrian frequently plays in Killarney, County Kerry, and takes part in various music festivals across Ireland. He is also a member of the Stríolan Céili Band, which is well-known on the Céili circuit. Through his performances and teaching, Adrian McAuliffe continues to contribute significantly to the preservation and evolution of Irish traditional music.
