We are weeks away from launching our new website, but I am already excited about revealing it to our students, instructors, staff and volunteers. We were certainly due for an upgrade. Nowadays, people expect better navigation, pages that display well on Smart phones and tablets, more functionality, more of what you want to see and a fresh, clean look. I think our new site has all of these features.
From the beginning, I have managed our site in Dreamweaver with the help of Emily Bryant who created our first site and then upgraded it a decade ago. Since I never got that familiar with the HTML code she used, I have had challenges keeping the site updated at times, particularly when Emily moved away. But for the most part, it has served us well. Thanks Emily for the time and talents you contributed over the years!
Our new site was created in WordPress, and frankly, it’s like driving a new Mercedes after years in a Ford Pinto. The ease at which the site can be managed is amazing. And with the new Gutenberg editing platform, a scattered brain like me can do no harm (at least so far – fingers crossed). We probably should have done this years ago.
All this to say, please check out the site when it finally gets launched sometime before March 1st. And let me know what you like and don’t like and any suggestions for improvements. We have big plans for its future — photo and video galleries, online store, streaming audio/video of concerts, tunebooks, etc. I think we have made a good start. The site is definitely improved, and like many things we achieved in 2018 to mark our 15th year, they’re changes for the better.
